3D Scanner

Description
Technical specifications

A log is scanned using three modules located around the log to be scanned at an angle of ≈ 120° to each other. Each module is a system consisting of an industrial video camera, a laser transmitter and a heating system (for operation at low temperatures). Data from the modules are transferred via a communication cable to a computer where the images received from the cameras are processed, a 3D model of the log surface is built and its geometrical characteristics are calculated, after which the bark is excluded from each measured section or the volume of bark is subtracted from the actual volume of the log according to the methods set out in GOST R 52117-2003. The data of each measured log is entered into a database, which allows for individual records of changes and batches, as well as the generation of reports.

The use of a 3D scanner makes it possible to significantly improve the accuracy of measurements compared to a 2D scanner, and, among other things, to measure curvature and ovality.

The 3D-scanner can be installed on virtually any type of transporter. The structural elements of the conveyor can be perceived by the scanner as part of a log profile, but an effective profile processing algorithm avoids this.

The 3D log scanner is used to solve the following tasks:

  • Recording incoming raw materials on a piece-by-piece basis
  • improved accuracy in measuring the characteristics of logs in sorting and crosscutting lines
  • Determining the optimum angle of rotation of the log when canting before sawing to obtain the maximum yield of useful products
